Simple Textured Crochet Blanket Pattern Pattern below! But first, let’s answer some common questions about crocheted blankets.
Why is My Crochet Blanket Curling?
Oh, this is a tough one. So many things go into why your WIP might be curling. The most likely culprit is tension. To fix this project, the best you can do is to try stretching the piece and maybe blocking it when you’re done. Blocking is easy, just make sure your piece can be washed, then submerge it and lay it out on a flat surface, then pin it in place. Once dried, the piece should be pretty flat.
You can do a couple of things to solve curled crochet in the future. Next time, you can try either using a larger hook or just relaxing your hands. If you tend to get cramped hands, you’re holding the hook too tight and that’s why your piece curls. So, relax that hand.
Why Is My Crochet Blanket Not Straight?
Another hard one. You probably got off on your stitch count. I know that isn’t what you want to hear and there’s not really an easy fix for it.
It could be that you had too tight of tension as you went on with your work and maybe you can pull the yarn a bit, do some blocking, but look to your stitch count. That’s usually the culprit when your crochet isn’t straight.
Can a Crochet Blanket be Fixed?
Absolutely. If you have a seam that pops or wears out, you can repair crocheted blankets fairly easily. You’re just going to find some yarn, preferably the exact same yarn, but of the same weight and color at the very least. Then you can join the stitches that were broken with a slip stitch or by repeating the stitches that were broken.
There are many crochet repair tutorials available, but it doesn’t have to be hard.
Can You Wash a Crochet Blanket?
Typically, yes. Most yarn you buy at the craft store can be washed. I would strongly recommend making sure by reading the label on your yarn, but you can usually wash your crochet blanket with like colors in warm water, no bleach.
If you want to dry your crochet blanket, you will, again, need to look at the label on your yarn, but, to be safe, what I usually do is lay flat to dry or hang it over my stair railing to let it dry overnight. It’s not the most perfect solution, but none of my crochet blankets have lost their form doing it this way, and that’s what’s important.
