If you’ve never tried to make crochet mittens for kids before? Were you discouraged by the complexity of adding a thumb? Well, you don’t have to be afraid of making a thumb gusset. Worked from the fingertip to cuff, these child size mittens are the perfect place to practice a couple of well placed decreases. Such a simple design element … and in the end you will have a wonderful fitted mitten.

These mittens are designed to match other pieces in the Gathered Buds Winter Accessory Collection and make the cutest set paired with the Gathered Buds Hat.

Where did the Gathered Buds Collection name come from? The gorgeous miscellaneous wildflower bouquets our little ones bring to us all summer long are such a joy. As mamas and daddies,  we can all appreciate the proud little faces beaming up at us to show us the collection of special flowers picked just for us. These bouquets are the inspiration for my Gathered Buds Collection. Even in the middle of the coldest winter, we can tie warm summer breezes to our crochet creations.

The free pattern is provided below including the size, materials, and notes. An ad-free PDF version of the Gathered Buds Mitten pattern is also available for you to purchase, download, and print out.

Is the first star * on row 24 correct? It doesn’t seem right to keep doing sc in back and front loops between the buds.

Hi Angela, I agree with you. Changed the * position in the row 24 and it works perfectly. I would do it as : Single crochet into back loop of first stitch of round, single crochet into front loop of first stitch of round, *skip 1 stitch, bean stitch, repeat from * for remainder of round.
