Crochet Dishcloth or Washcloth Free Pattern

Size:

Approximately 8 in x 8 in (20 cm x 20 cm)

Materials:

  • Crochet Dishcloth 1 – approximately 80 yards worsted weight cotton yarn. Drops Paris cotton yarn used for cloths pictured.

  • Crochet Dishcloth 2 – approximately 85 yards worsted weight cotton yarn. Drops Paris cotton yarn used for cloths pictured.

  • Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

  • Tapestry needle

Skill Level: Easy

Gauge: In half double crochet, 14 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches

Pattern Notes

The yarn used for these designs contains natural fiber and requires special laundering. Please read yarn labels and follow directions to maintain the life of your crochet work.

Special Stitches

Half Double Crochet in Bottom Loop of Foundation Chain:

Turn your foundation chain over and crochet in the row of single “bumps” or loops created on the bottom when you made the chain.

(Altered) Bean Stitch / Puff Stitch:

Insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull through, *yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull through, repeat from * 2 more times, yarn over, pull through 8 loops on hook, chain 1 (to lock stitch). Skip 1 stitch immediately following bean stitch. This will equal 2 stitches in pattern.

Chain 31.

Row 1:

Half double crochet in bottom loop of foundation chain (see Special Stitches Section for instructions) in second chain from hook and continue to end of row, turn. (30 stitches total)

Row 2:

Chain 1, half double crochet in first 3 stitches of row, 12 (Altered) Bean Stitches (see Special Stitches Section above) across row until last 3 stitches, half double crochet in last 3 stitches of row, turn. (12 beans total, 6 half double crochet stitches total)

Rows 3 – 4:

Chain 1, half double crochet in each stitch of row, turn. (30 stitches total)

Rows 5 – 8:

Chain 1, half double crochet in first 3 stitches of row, 4 bean stitches, 8 half double crochet stitches, 4 bean stitches, 3 half double crochet stitches, turn. (8 beans total, 14 half double crochet stitches total)

Rows 9 – 12:

Chain 1, half double crochet in first 11 stitches of row, 4 bean stitches, 11 half double crochet stitches, turn. (4 beans total, 22 half double crochet stitches total)

Rows 13 – 16:

Chain 1, half double crochet in first 3 stitches of row, 4 bean stitches, 8 half double crochet stitches, 4 bean stitches, 3 half double crochet stitches, turn. (8 beans total, 14 half double crochet stitches total)

Rows 17 – 18:

Chain 1, half double crochet in each stitch of row, turn. (30 stitches total)

Row 19:

Chain 1, half double crochet in first 3 stitches of row, 12 bean stitches across row until last 3 stitches, half double crochet in last 3 stitches of row, turn. (12 beans total, 6 half double crochet stitches total)

Row 20:

Chain 1, half double crochet in each stitch of row. (30 stitches total)

Fasten off.

Weave in ends.
