Chunky Coffee Cup Cozy Free Crochet Pattern – Fast Gift Idea
One of the things I love most about crochet is that it’s so versatile. You can make just about anything you can imagine! And coffee cup cozies are one of my favorite things to crochet. They’re quick, easy, and make great gifts for coffee lovers.
Plus, if you have scrap yarn, this project is perfect because it takes so little yarn – but makes such a fantastically useful piece that you will find yourself using it time and again.

What Yarn Should You Use for a Chunky Coffee Cozy?
For this easy coffee cozy crochet pattern, I wanted it to work up quick (it took me less than 30 minutes!) and be pretty thick so it can be really well insulating – keep those fingies from getting too hot. LOL! So I decided to use a super bulky yarn in a nice, neutral color to go with any coffee cup it might adorn. That way it doesn’t matter if the coffee cups I get are red, brown or green, the grey will still work without being a thing.
More specifically, I used Bernat Mega Bulky, jumbo bulky (7), 100% acrylic yarn in Light Grey Heather colorway. But this project can be worked with any jumbo bulky weight yarn or similar.
What Size Is This Coffee Cup Cozy?
As written, this pattern is one-size. The resulting wall coffee cup cozy is 13-inches diameter and 3 1/2-inches tall. This is reasonably sized for typically-sized coffee cups, because it has a little stretch. Although I usually use a smaller to-go cup, I have tried this cozy on large and medium cups (or venti and grande LOL) and the cozy fits just fine.
Additionally, the shorter height works well on any size cup for putting your cup in the car’s cupholder, keeping you from being limited on where you take your cup once cozied. LOL!
How Much Yarn Will I Need to Make a Coffee Cup Wrap?
I used the smallest portion of a skein of Bernat Mega Bulky yarn in Light Grey Heather colorway for the pictured tumbler cozy. I do generally crochet in a medium-tension, so this is what I would consider an average amount of yarn usage for this project.
How Do You Crochet a Cozy for a Coffee Cup?
This particular pattern is worked in the round after making a loop with your beginning chain. It’s simple and fast, using a very large crochet hook when combined with the jumbo bulky yarn.
