That being said, sure the yarn is great, and totally inspired me to make this fun scarf. But the truth is that, once I got to working the pattern out, the whole project took on a life of its own.
The recycled yarn is pretty fantastic, soft and definitely worth making a project with. But the pattern turned out to be a super fun way to make a gift or warm up on a chilly day.
Seriously, quickness with which this chunky ribbed scarf worked-up was a delight and it made for a fun way to pass some time.
What Yarn Should You Use for a Chunky Scarf?
For this particular project, I found myself gravitating toward this particular yarn brand and weight, looking for a pattern to fit it. Because who doesn’t want to work with yarn made from recycled water bottles?! So, with that in mind, I wanted a fun project that would work-up fast with the thick yarn.
But this project can be worked with any super bulky weight yarn or similar.
What Size Does This Quick Crochet Scarf Pattern Fit?
As written, this pattern is sized to fit an average height woman. I am 5-foot 9-inches and this is perfect for me. Given how short this scarf is, it would work well for a much shorter person, as well. It’s very much a one-size-fits-all size.
How Much Yarn Will I Need to Make a Crocheted Scarf?
I used about almost two full 5.29 oz skeins of 65% recycled polyester, 25% acrylic, 10% wool super bulky weight yarn (size 6) in blush blend colorway. I do generally crochet in a medium-tension, so this is what I would consider an average amount of yarn usage for this project.
How Do You Crochet a Chunky Scarf?
This particular scarf crochet pattern is worked in a long rectangle. With the added ribbing, the stitch work doesn’t get too boring, but this is a great project for enjoying when you just want something to keep your hands busy.
