Beautiful Mosaic iPad Cozy Crochet Pattern (Easy and Fabulous Gift Idea)
An iPad cozy is a great way to keep your device protected and looking chic. Plus, it can help prevent scratches and other damage. This iPad cozy is made of soft, luxurious yarn, so it’s perfect for keeping your device safe and warm. The best part is, it’s easy to crochet – even if you’ve never tried mosaic crochet before.
And, because iPads are all about the same size, give or take, you can use this pattern as a gift. Simply make one in their favorite color and wrap it. They’ll love this useful and stylish gift.
Don’t hesitate to make one for yourself, too. They’re really useful for keeping your iPad clean and handy – and can hold your pencil, a notebook or other things you might need.
What Yarn Should You Use for a iPad Cover?
For this particular project, I wanted something soft and flexible to allow the fabric to stretch around the iPad as I clumsily jam it into the case. Because that’s how I am. So, I selected Caron Simply Soft yarn in the Ocean colorway.
But this project can be worked with any worsted weight yarn or similar. Below are some options that work well for making bracelets.
What Size Is This iPad Cozy?
As written, this pattern is one-size. The resulting iPad cover is 8-inches wide by 11.5-inches long. This is the perfect size to stretch around a larger iPad or fit perfectly around an iPad mini.
How Much Yarn Will I Need to Make a Tablet Cover?
I used about about 1/2 of a full 6 oz skein of 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn (size 4) in solid dark blue and white colorways. I do generally crochet in a medium-tension, so this is what I would consider an average amount of yarn usage for this project.
How Do You Crochet a Cozy for an iPad?
This particular iPad cover is crocheted as a long rectangle with the mosaic element wrapping around the top.
The mosaic crochet portion is crocheted by working primarily in 3 stitches: single crochet, double crochet, and chain. Each row is tied off at the end, leaving you with a TON of tails, but they can all be captured and woven in with a single crochet rows along each edge before you close the iPad cozy by folding it in half.
Itโs a clever and fun way to crochet, making some very beautiful designs really POP!
What is Mosaic Crochet?
There are two types of mosaic crochet, interlocking and overlay.
- Interlocking mosaic crochet is worked in meshes that, together, make an intricate design. So, you make โgapsโ in your crochet and build your design with the second color within those gaps.
- Overlay mosaic is worked from right to left on the front side only. Each row alternates between two colors, with double crochet stitches covering the stitch below, revealing your design.
For this particular project, to simplify the concept, the stitch work is very basic. I have worked it out to be only single crochets and double crochets, using the overlay mosaic method. So each row is worked as a different color throughout the mosaic portion, revealing the design as we work each color.
If youโd rather work the pattern from the chart, hereโs what I prepared. Again, this is a basic pattern for beginners โ weโll work on a more intricate pattern soon, I promise.
