Kids Bucket Hat Crochet Pattern – Rainbow Striped Summer Hat for Kids
This crochet bucket hat pattern is incredibly easy to make. Plus, the simple design means that this project works up quickly – you could have a whole bunch of these hats ready in no time!
Not only is this crochet bucket hat pattern easy to make, but kids are going to love wearing it too! With its bright and colorful rainbow stripes, this hat is sure to turn heads.
And the best part is, since it’s made out of 100% acrylic yarn, it’s machine-washable and dryer-friendly – which means kids can wear it over and over again without worrying about ruining their new favorite hat.
Just perfect for keeping the sun out of your little one’s eyes, this hat is just designed for a bright day. The brim is wide enough to provide good coverage, but not so wide that it gets in the way.
And since the hat is made out of acrylic yarn, it’s lightweight and won’t overheat your child’s head on those hot summer days.
What Yarn Should You Use for a Bucket Hat?
I had a very special request from a little lady to make her a rainbow hat. For the summer. Which is odd – because it is not summer, but this little lady decided that she wanted it to be rainbow and “for summer”. So I did what I could and found some coordinating colors in rainbow variations in a yarn that I had sitting around. Not a lot of digging, mind you, just what colors coordinated well.
More specifically, I used World of Yarn Magala, worsted weight (4), 100% acrylic yarn in Frost, Cucumber, Primrose, Ballerina, and Cherry Blossom colorways. But this project can be worked with any worsted weight yarn or similar.
What Size Is This Child’s Size Bucket Hat?
As written, this pattern is one-size. The resulting hat is 20-inches diameter opening with a 32-inch diameter brim. This is reasonably sized for small children ages 11 and under, approximately.
How Much Yarn Will I Need to Make a Bucket Hat for Kids?
I used almost a whole skein of World of Yarn Magala yarn, were I to have used one colorway. But, for the pictured hat, I only used about 1/5 of each skein of yarn, so I had a lot left over for other projects (or more hats). I do generally crochet in a medium-tension, so this is what I would consider an average amount of yarn usage for this project.
How Do You Crochet a Bucket Hat?
The kids bucket hat is worked in the round, starting with a foundation chain. If you prefer to make a magic circle, you can find instructions to make that, you can see my trinket bowl crochet pattern.
