If you’re looking for an easy beginner crochet project, this free crochet ribbed baby blanket pattern is for you! The post stitches make such pretty crochet ribbing detail and texture for this blanket that you’ll love.
And, don’t worry about working a border for this pattern — I kept it really easy with the border built right in. Solid and simple half double crochet stitches at the beginning and end of each row create a plain base for the texture of the post stitch ribs to pop right out in the design.
There are so many gorgeous crochet patterns available today that feature crochet cables. But, cable stitches can look intimidating and require some practice. The good news is … advanced crochet cables are based upon variations of post stitches used in this free crochet pattern.
By the time you have completed this blanket, you will have so much more confidence to tackle a beginner crochet cable project (no tunisian crochet here!). Because it’s worked differently than granny squares, you do have a lot of repeat rows, but none of them are single crochet, so it works-up fast. And the ribbed stitch looks so cool when you’re done, you’ll want to make a crochet hat, crochet bag and top them all with crochet flowers! LOL!
This blanket is sized to make a baby blanket or toddler sleep mat, but the multiples are included to increase it to a throw size for your couch or even a coverlet for a bed.

I cannot wait to do this pattern – it looks easy enough and not boring doing the same stitches over and over. I will have to cut and paste the pattern because I just can’t seem to figure out the download stuff.
