Who says you can’t combine your passions!

When you crochet a prayer shawl, whether it’s for yourself or to give to someone else, you can infuse the crafting with prayer and good intentions. What an amazing and thoughtful gift for somebody!

This article works to the principle that any such crafted shawl can be used as a prayer shawl. (If perhaps you don’t feel the same way, however, we offer our apologies, no offense is meant. We did look for tallit crochet patterns, but couldn’t find any.)

The prayer shawl crochet patterns that we have selected do not have a specific design in mind, though we have tried to pick out ones with repetitive stitch patterns, that will get you into the flow of the crafting and praying.

But, before you rush off and find a pattern to make, be sure to pin this to your favorite crochet crafts board on Pinterest so you can find it again later when you’re ready for your next project!

14 Beautiful Prayer Shawl Crochet Patterns

Beginner Friendly Crochet Shawl Pattern

A light blue and dark blue diagonal striped crochet triangle shawl on a white background.

Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the best ones, aren’t they?

This is a very simple and straightforward crochet pattern that even newbies to the hobby have very little trouble with. We like how this version features multiple tonal colors that really seem to blend perfectly with one another, and the stripes are very calming and soothing.

You can work it with any weight of yarn that you like, but to achieve the same look as in the picture, you should use a #4 medium weight yarn, together with a 6.5 mm hook. If you would like looser work, you can simply opt for a slightly bigger hook size.

Mighty Waves Prayer Shawl Crochet Pattern

A blue crochet prayer shawl spread out on a light wooden floor.

This beautiful prayer shawl is delicate with lovely detailing, and has a nice, rhythmic stitching pattern to it.

The name of the prayer shawl comes from Psalm 93:4 KJV, which goes as follows:

“The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.”

It’s an easy pattern to follow, and the finished design will measure 70 by 20 inches. You will need about 1000 yards of #3 weight yarn.

Amazing Grace Prayer Shawl Crochet Pattern by Beatrice Ryan Designs

Very pretty with a lacy end, I love this simple crochet batter. Definitely simple enough for a beginner but fun enough for someone with more experience.

Prayer Shawl for Dori Easy Crochet Pattern by Skerin

A blue crochet prayer shawl with a lace trim on all sides on a light colored background.

This is a rather sweet and feminine prayer shawl, measuring 58 by 18 inches when finished.

You simply take some 3-ply worsted yarn, work it in rows, and then do a Lace picot border worked in rounds for the edges.

The pattern is easy enough to follow, but it’s recommended for those with at least an intermediate level of ability.

Hope Endures Prayer Shawl Crochet Pattern

Woman wearing a pink crochet prayer shawl wrapped around her shoulders and arms and a black jumpsuit.

This beautiful Hope Endures Prayer Shawl crochet pattern was created with the intent of reminding those who are suffering that hope endures all things. Such a lovely intention and thought behind it, which is why it makes for a great gift to give to someone who has been taken ill.

The finished piece is relatively big in size, measuring 60 by 22 inches. A very comforting item to wear. It is suitable for beginners, with nice, rhythmic stitches, and you don’t have to make it in pink if that’s not appropriate for the wearer.

Once you’re on the seller’s page, you can simply download the pattern, just click here.

Gentle Solace Prayer Shawl Pattern

Absolutely gorgeous pattern with a simple lacy look, I love the fringe on the ends and the cozy look.

Reversible Prayer Wrap Crochet Pattern

The back of a woman wearing a yellow crochet prayer shawl with yellow tassels along the bottom.

This very large corner to corner reversible prayer wrap is a joy to make and a great comfort to wear. We love the little fringing on the ends.

The pattern is easy to follow and takes you through 4 different stitch designs. You will need to know the C2C crochet technique to make the pattern, but it’s not overly complicated.

You will need #3 weight yarn and a 4.5 mm hook.

Once you’re on the seller’s page, you can simply download the pattern, just click here. And there are photo tutorials to guide you along.

Sweet and Simple Shawl Crochet Pattern

White mannequin wearing a gray, black, and cream striped shawl in front of a light wooden wall.

The name of this pattern says it all – sweet and simple.

It’s an easy, straightforward design, and is amazingly warm and comforting to wear. We like how this version features multiple tonal colors that really seem to blend perfectly with one another, and the stripes are very calming and soothing.

The finished result is fairly large, measuring 60 inches in length by 24 inches in width, but you can of course make it even bigger if you so wish.

This lacy, light pattern is just a perfect variation of the standard lacy shawl pattern. A more advanced beginner could easily tackle this shawl.

Victoria Lacy Shawl Easy Crochet Pattern

White mannequin wearing a pink lacy crochet shawl around its neck and chest.

Now, this is a really lovely shawl, and it looks really lacey and special.

It’s a relatively easy shawl to make, and the pattern is really easy to follow. There’s just two rows of setting up, and after that it’s plain sailing as the pattern repeats and repeats until it reaches 64 inches long by 14 inches wide.

Once you’re on the seller’s page, you can simply download the pattern, just click here. You might even be able to catch a deal.

Isla Bonita Lace Shawl Crochet Pattern

A white mannequin wearing a pink and cream crochet lacy shawl around its neck and another mannequin wearing it across its shoulders and back.

This beautiful lace shawl is just so pretty. We love how the graduating tonal colors really seem to blend in perfectly with one another. The colors used are so feminine too, with baby pink, and a light beige. And the tassels on the corners really add something to the design, don’t they?

The finished design is 185 cm long by 70 cm wide, and although it’s an English pattern, there’s a handy translation and conversion chart for US and European measures.

It’s an easy pattern to follow, and there’s a detailed step-by-step description with pictures to make the tassels. And there’s a clear rhythm to the stitching, which makes it a perfect choice for a prayer shawl.

Once you’re on the seller’s page, you can simply download the pattern, just click here.

Beginner One Skein Shawl Crochet Pattern

A white mannequin wearing a white, gray, and green crochet skein shawl around its neck on a white background.

What’s great about this triangle shaped shawl crochet pattern is that even newbies to the hobby soon become skilled at creating it. And if you’re quite practiced in crochet, you can finish it in one weekend.

It uses very simple stitches that are easy to repeat. What they’ve done in the picture is to use just one skein of self striping yarn in order to produce a lovely gradient, blended effect.

The only techniques you’ll need to be able to carry out are double crochet, the skipping stitch, and the chain stitch. When complete, the finished item measures 47 inches long by 27 inches wide.

Once you’re on the seller’s page, you can simply download the pattern, just click here.

Victoria’s German Shells Shawl Pattern

A cream crochet shrug with long cuffed sleeves and a small round mandala on the back on a wooden floor.

Just look at this – isn’t it amazing?

It uses just two types of stitches, the German shell stitch (also known as the virus stitch) and a V stitch.

The triangle is 68 inches at its longest edge and is 35 inches from the center of this edge to the tip. But you can very easily add to the size by just continuing with the repeats.
