Navajo Diamond crochet patterns are a beautiful design that can be used on traditional Native American colorings and on different styles too. It goes with absolutely everything, which is why it is one of the best designs for someone to learn!
Today, we will explain what a Navajo Diamond pattern is and show you some of the most beautiful patterns to follow, which will help you add this design to your repertoire.
We have also gathered some pre-made Navajo Diamond blankets at the bottom of the article, so if you want the pattern but haven’t got the time to make them yourself, you can still own this mesmerizing design.
What Is A Navajo Diamond Crochet Pattern?
Traditional Navajo Diamond patterns have four colors. One is a light cream, and it takes up about a third of the blanket.
In the middle of the cream color, you’ll find a black straight line which is stopped by dots every now and then (we will get back to the dots later).
After the cream is a border color, normally grey. Then comes another important color to take up a third of the repeating pattern.
This color should be darker and is often a maroon red. In the middle of the red is another black line. This one also has dots that appear along the line.
The diamond shape comes in with the texture of the pattern. Criss-crossing the whole blanket will be a lifted version of the pattern.
The dots are actually the continuous black line that has been lifted and lowered to help create this diamond shape.
The overall effect is both stunning, and simple whilst still looking like only a highly skilled person could make it.
12 Beautiful Navajo Diamond Crochet Patterns
Classic Navajo Indian Diamond Crochet Pattern For A Blanket – Carol Rosa
This classic pattern uses all the fundamentals design choices of a Navajo Diamond pattern, but the normal grey board has been swapped out for a pink. It makes the blanket seem super uplifting and a perfect addition to a feminine room!
The end result will be a 60 by 40 inch blanket using 4 ply yarn for approximately 3 – 4 skeins.
Carol Rosa’s pattern also includes blue options, but you can attempt to go off-book and add a grey board for a more traditional look.

If adding in the different colors (and there are many different colors) seems too daunting on your first try, you can practice the diamond effect with this bag!
Desert Blossom Crafts hasn’t created a real Navajo Diamond effect, but that’s only because they are focusing on the diamond shapes rather than the Navajo colorings.

Diamond Stitch Tutorial – Meladoras Creation PDF
If Dessert Blossom Crafts’ bag still seems a little too tricky, then follow Meladoras Creation PDF’s step-by-step process to help you create a diamond stitch.
In our opinion, their price is a little high for just a stitch tutorial, however, Meladoras Creation PDF does have a free pattern PDF on their website.
The free version doesn’t have pictures, but if you aren’t a visual learner, then that might be perfect for you.
They also have video tutorials on their YouTube channel Meladora1. The video is available for left-handed people and right-handed people.
Navajo Afghan Pattern – Katnabox Collection
If the diamond aspect of this Navajo pattern is causing you to worry, you can use Katnabox Collection’s design to calm your nerves.
There are diamonds in the design, but they are not textural. Instead, Katnabox Collection has used their colors to embed the diamonds into the afghan.
We wouldn’t call this pattern easy, instead, we would say that an intermediate skill is needed to complete the design successfully, but it is all one height.
Purple Navajo Blanket – Top 2 Toes Boutique
Let’s get back to real Navajo Blanket patterns! This wonderful design by Top 2 Toe Boutique uses an array of purple colors that get lighter and darker like a gradient. When the dark colors come together, the diamond points are created!
The only thing this pattern is missing is the classic black line that cuts through the light and dark block colors. We are happy to see this fantastic pattern, though, as it shows how you can do almost anything with the Navajo Diamond!
Crochet Diamond Bag – Chrissy’s Crochet Shop
This beautiful diamond bag pattern uses the same diamond stitching as the Navajo Diamond design, which is why we have added it to our list.
You can mix up the one color suggestion that Chrissy’s Crochet Shop suggests and instead make this beautiful but plain bag turn into an outstanding Navajo creation.
