Autumn Field Trip Peak Hat Crochet Pattern
I always feel like hats are one of those things that you can’t have too many of! This hat has great texture and would be perfect for any fall or winter outfit you want to wear.
If you are looking for an easy hat crochet pattern that will keep your head and ears warm during the fall and winter, this is the hat. Plus, the hat is worked in the round, so there is no seaming needed. You don’t even join the rounds, so there isn’t even an appearance of a seam. So, seamless…LOL!
This hat crochet pattern includes instructions for both a child’s hat with modifications for making an adult hat. They are not interchangeable as this is a snug-fitting hat, although the top is slouchy.
That being said, that top is one of my favorite things about this hat design. There are no decreases or increases in the hat pattern, so you’re left with that open end and you stitch it closed, leaving a floppy, fun finish that just makes that slouchy look shine. Plus, it makes the stitching of the hat very easy since there’s no increasing or decreasing to get your hat shape.
What Type of Yarn Should I Use for a Crocheted Hat?
The hat is made with a worsted weight yarn and an I crochet hook. I like to use Knit Picks organic cotton worsted weight yarn, but any worsted weight yarn should work well.
This hat has great texture and would be perfect for any fall or winter outfit you want to wear.
Most hats are made with a worsted weight or bulky weight yarn. They can be made with any yarn you prefer, but a nice thick or chunky yarn looks best and will hold shape for this type of hat best. Below are some options that work well for making hats.
Can I Add a Pom Pom to the Top of This Hat?
You can absolutely add a pom pom to this easy hat. I generally like to make my own pom poms out of matching yarn for the hat, but you can always pick up pre-made pom poms in various textures and colors at a craft store. Handmade or pre-made, pom poms are generally easy to stitch in once the pattern is complete.
This particular design might even look cute with one giant pom pom in the center or two pom poms – one on each side!
