What You Need to Make This Easy Free Crochet Blanket Pattern

Size:

Approximately 39 x 29 in (99 x 74 cm)

Pattern is worked in multiples of 9 + 12 ( +12 includes: borders, final column of floral design and 1 turning stitch).

The pattern is worked over 8 rows.

Materials:

Single color blanket: approximately 1200 yards heavy worsted or aran weight yarn. Drops Nepal wool and alpaca blend used for blanket pictured.

Multi-color blanket – base color approximately 900 yards / 5 additional colors approximately 60 yards each heavy worsted or aran weight yarn. Drops Nepal wool and alpaca blend used for blanket pictured.

Crochet hook: Size I/9 (5.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Tapestry needle

Gauge:

Within body of pattern, 15 stitches and 17 rows = 4 inches

Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate

Special Stitches

Single Crochet in Back Bar (Bottom Loop) of Foundation Chain:

Turn your foundation chain over and crochet in the row of single “bumps” or loops created on the bottom when you made the chain.

Treble Crochet:

Yarn over twice, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two loops on hook (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two more loops on hook (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through final two loops on hook.

Front Post Single Crochet:

Insert hook right to left behind the post from row below, yarn over and finish stitch as a single crochet.

Back Post Single Crochet:

Insert hook right to left in front of the post from row below, yarn over and finish stitch as a single crochet.

How to Make This Easy Free Crochet Blanket Pattern

(In base color) Chain 93.

Row 1:

Turn foundation chain over and single crochet in bottom loop of second stitch of foundation chain (see Special Stitches Section for instructions), continue single crochet stitch in each bottom loop of foundation chain, turn. (92 stitches total and for each row hereafter.)

Rows 2 – 6:

Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch of row, turn.

Row 7:

Chain 1, 5 single crochet, treble crochet in next stitch, *8 single crochet, treble crochet, repeat from * across row until 5 stitches left in row, 5 single crochet, turn. (10 treble crochet total)

Row 8:

Chain 1, 4 single crochet, treble crochet, back post single crochet (around treble stitch in row below), treble crochet, *6 single crochet, treble crochet, back post single crochet, treble crochet, repeat from * across row until 4 stitches left in row, 4 single crochet, turn.

Row 9:

Chain 1, 4 single crochet, front post single crochet (around treble stitch from row below), treble crochet, front post single crochet (around treble stitch in row below), *6 single crochet, front post single crochet, treble crochet, front post single crochet, repeat from * across row until 4 stitches left in row, 4 single crochet, turn.

Row 10:

Chain 1, 5 single crochet, back post single crochet (around treble stitch from row below), *8 single crochet, back post single crochet, repeat from * across row until 5 stitches left in row, 5 single crochet, turn.

Row 11:

Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch of row, turn.

Rows 12 – 13:

(Optional color change) Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch of row, turn.

Row 14:

(In base color) Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch of row, turn.

Rows 15 – 136:

Repeat Rows 7 – 14, 15 more times, (do not change color in final repeat).

Do not fasten off.

Border

Round 1:

Chain 1, single crochet around all four sides with 3 single crochet at each corner, slip stitch to join at end of round.

Round 2:

Chain 1, *4 single crochet, **treble crochet, single crochet, repeat from ** until last 4 stitches from corner stitch, 4 single crochet, 3 single crochet in corner stitch, repeat from * around remaining sides, slip stitch into first stitch of round to join (skip chain 1 space).

Round 3:

Chain 1, *5 single crochet, **front post single crochet, single crochet, repeat from ** until last 5 stitches from corner stitch, 5 single crochet, 3 single crochet in corner stitch, repeat from * around remaining sides, slip stitch into first stitch of round to join.

Fasten off.

Finishing:

Weave in ends.
