Crochet Dishcloth and Hand Towel – Kitchen Pattern Set

Pathways Dishcloth

Size:

8 ½ x 8 ½ in (21.5 x 21.5 cm) [9 ½ x 9 ½ in (24 x 24 cm), 10 ½ x 10 ½ in (26.6 x 26.6 cm)]

Materials:

Color A: approximately 70 [85, 100] yards worsted weight cotton yarn. (Any worsted weight cotton yarn can be used.)
Color B: approximately 10 yards worsted weight cotton yarn (Any worsted weight cotton yarn can be used.)
Crochet hook: Size H/8 (5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle

In half double crochet, 14 stitches and 11 rows = 4 inches

Pattern Notes

Cotton yarn is recommended for this pattern for best water absorption.
Smooth and bumpy textured organic cotton yarn used in pictures of dishcloths and hand towel.

Special Stitches

Slip Stitch in Back Bar (Bottom Loop) of Foundation Chain:

Turn your foundation chain over and crochet in the row of single “bumps” or loops created on the bottom when you made the chain.

Double Treble Crochet:

Wrap hook with yarn three times, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull hook through stitch (five loops on hook), * yarn over and pull through two loops on hook, repeat from * three more times.

Change yarn color with standard half double crochet:

At last stitch in row (with color A) yarn over, insert hook into stitch, draw up a loop, (3 loops on hook) drop color A, pick up color B and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Continue to work pattern with color B.

Change yarn color with double treble crochet:

At last stitch in row (with color B) wrap hook with yarn three times, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull hook through stitch (five loops on hook), * yarn over and pull through two loops on hook, repeat from * two more time. With 2 loops left on hook, drop color B, pick up color A and draw through last 2 loops on hook. Continue to work pattern with color A.

Directions

With color A, chain 29 [33, 37], turn.

Row 1:

Working in bottom bar of foundation chain (see Special Stitches section above), slip stitch in second chain from hook and each stitch of foundation chain to end of row, turn. (28 [32, 36] stitches total.)

Rows 2 and 3:

Chain 2, half double crochet in each stitch, turn.

Row 4:

Chain 2, half double crochet in each stitch, change to yarn color B (see Special Stitches section above) in final stitch of row, turn.

Row 5:

Chain 3, double treble crochet (see Special Stitches section above) in each stitch of row, change to yarn color A (see Special Stitches section above) in final stitch of row, turn.

Rows 6 – 18 [22, 26]:

Chain 2, half double crochet in each stitch, turn.

Row 19 [23, 27]:

Chain 1, slip stitch in each stitch to end of row.

Fasten off.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends.

Lightly block to shape if desired.
