This adorable crochet baby hat pattern is so simple–it’s literally the easiest baby hat crochet pattern you’ll ever find. Perfect for newborn size, this crochet hat pattern is an awesome baby shower gift.
Have you made an oval crochet placemat or rug? Maybe a nice sturdy basket or bag?
How about starting a crochet newborn hat pattern with an oval?
I discovered this style about 10 years ago and I haven’t gone back. These easy hats are worked in the round from the top down – with no seams. But when you are finished with Round 1, there are no more increases! There is no more counting! Just sit back and enjoy the crocheting. Seriously, you don’t have to keep counting stitches in each round, and you don’t have to make additional increases or decreases. I just love working hats this way!
Fun & Unique Crochet Baby Hat Pattern
My Sugar Sprout newborn hat starts with an oval, of course, and these little hats use less than one skein of Drops Nepal and work up super quick for baby showers or craft fairs.
The cuteness is all in the details. You can create a brim with or without a round of cluster stitches – in a sweet contrasting color or solid. And, you can complete the top to look like a traditional beanie or make a simple peak to finish off the hat.

I love this pattern, but I have a hard time with the instructions for the last steps for shaping the top of the hats. Would you be able to make a video of those steps?
