What You Need to Make This Bulky Crochet Blanket
Size: Approximately 42 x 30 in (107 x 76 cm)
Pattern is worked in multiples of 9 + 11 and over two rows.
Materials:
- Approximately 1050 yards super bulky weight yarn or 10 skeins of Drops Andes super bulky weight yarn.
Tapestry needle
Crochet hook: Size N/15 (10.0 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge:
Gauge check for this pattern is a multiple set x 8 rows = 4 ½ inches
Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate
Pattern Notes
The multiple set includes a BPdc or FPdc, an Altered Bean Stitch, another BPdc or FPdc, and 6 half double crochet stitches.
For this pattern, a bean stitch will count as 1 stitch only.

Half Double Crochet in Back Bar (Bottom Loop) of Foundation Chain:
Turn your foundation chain over and crochet in the row of single “bumps” or loops created on the bottom when you made the chain.
Front Post double crochet (FPdc):
Yarn over, insert hook right to left behind the double crochet post from row below, yarn over and finish stitch as a double crochet.
Back Post double crochet (BPdc):
Yarn over, insert hook right to left in front of the double crochet post from row below, yarn over and finish stitch as a double crochet.
Altered Bean Stitch (Bean Stitch / Puff Stitch):
Insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull through, *yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, pull through, repeat from * 3 more times, yarn over, pull through 10 loops on hook, chain 1 (to lock stitch). Note: for this pattern, a bean stitch will count as 1 stitch only.
How to Make This Bulky Crochet Blanket
Directions
Chain 65.
Row 1:
Turn foundation chain over and half double crochet in bottom loop of third stitch of foundation chain (see Special Stitches Section for instructions), continue half double crochet stitch in each bottom loop of foundation chain, turn. (63 stitches total and for each row hereafter.)
Rows 2 – 3:
Chain 2, half double crochet in each stitch of row, for number of rows indicated, turn.
Row 4:
*Chain 2, half double crochet in first three stitches of row, back post double crochet (BPdc) in next stitch, Altered Bean Stitch in next stitch of row (very important–do not skip next stitch as you would for standard bean [puff] stitch–bean stitch will count as 1 stitch only) BPdc in next stitch of row, half double crochet in next six stitches of row, repeat this pattern from first BPdc across row until last three stitches of row, half double crochet in last three stitches of row, turn.
