What Is a Basketweave Pattern?

Basketweave patterns use a mixture of front post stitches and back post stitches to create an alternating criss cross effect. The end product looks like a combination of two types of squares woven together. Depending on the pattern you choose, the weaves should resemble a wooden woven basket.

Beautiful Basketweave Blanket Patterns

Quick and Easy Basketweave Baby Blanket – DaisyGrayKnits

An olive green basket weave crochet baby blanket next to gray and pink blankets with the same design.

We are starting off easy with a small 20-inch by 30-inch design. The finished product will look like a true weaving motion of an under-over basket design. The ends have a simple finish, so you will be guided from start to finish.

Mint Velvet Throw Crochet Pattern – RichTexturesCrochet

Green crochet throw using a large basketweave pattern draped over a wooden hanger on a pale wooden background.

If you want a more vintage and less baby look, then check out Rich Textures Crochet’s design. They also give you a free video tutorial, so visual learners can have an extra helping hand.

The finished size is 44-inches by 54-inches, and we would call the pattern an intermediate skill level.

Easy Crochet Basketweave Afghan – MakeandDoCrew

Such a beautiful weave and then add that little ruffly border? So nice and I just can’t get over how beautiful the basketweave looks in white.

Crochet Blanket Pattern for Reversible Weighted Afghan – BeautiWoolTreasures

Baby pink crochet baby blanket with a basketweave pattern and small pink vertical trim on all sides.

If you are hoping for a blanket, but with some additional weight for an anxiety-relieving sleep, then we suggest Beauti Wool Treasures. The weighted effect will make falling asleep easier. Heavy yarn has been used to create this effect, but their pattern design helps you move the thread with the same level of precision.

Crochet Giant Basketweave Throw in Velvet – DaisyFarmCrafts

Large cream crochet blanket with a large basketweave pattern draped over a chair next to a small plant.

If a weighted blanket sounds good, but you’re after a chunky material to hold onto, then we suggest using Daisy Farm Craft’s pattern. You’ll end up with a 40-inch by 52-inch throw, weighing around 10.5oz (300g).

Even though the throw is giant, the method is easy.

Chunky Basketweave Throw Blanket Crochet Pattern – HookedHomemadeHappy

Chunky blankets are the best to snuggle up with, but sometimes the thick material can be too much. This chunky throw design is a little more slender. It still has a bulky effect, but it doesn’t demand attention from the whole room.

If you like your blankets with a tighter pattern and less gaps in the crochet design, then follow Pattern Museum’s classic and iconic guide.

This cute little scarf is a one-around design that goes over your head to land on your neck. It is thick enough to keep you warm but loose enough to keep you feeling free.
