The easy base for the North Cove Basket matches my other basket patterns – The Gathered Buds Basket and the Bonbon Basket. Simple crochet rib stitching adds gorgeous classic detail sure to inspire so many uses for this basket.

Approximately 95 yards worsted weight yarn. LB Collection Pure Wool used for basket pictured but any worsted weight yarn will work.

Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Open ring stitch marker to mark rounds

Pattern Notes
Basket is worked in a continuous spiral. Do not join rounds unless specified.
The yarn used for these designs contains natural fiber and requires special laundering. Please read yarn labels and follow directions to maintain the life of your crochet work.
A small length of contrasting yarn may be used in place of a stitch marker. Weave the yarn upwards as you work rounds in the piece. See picture below.
Special Stitches
Front Post Half Double Crochet:
Yarn over, insert hook right to left behind the post from the row below, yarn over and finish stitch as a half double crochet.
Back Post Half Double Crochet:
Yarn over, insert hook right to left in front of the post from row below, yarn over and finish stitch as a half double crochet.
Front Post Single Crochet:
Insert hook right to left behind the post from the row below, yarn over and finish stitch as a single crochet.
Back Post Slip Stitch:
Insert hook right to left in front of the post from row below, yarn over and finish as a slip stitch.
Directions for the North Cove Crochet Basket
Chain 4, slip stitch in one loop of first stitch to join.
Round 1:
Twelve half double crochet into center of chain 4 loop, do not slip stitch to join. (12 stitches total)
Place stitch marker to mark rounds. Move marker up for each round forward.
Round 2:
Two half double crochet in each stitch of round. (24 stitches total)
Round 3:
*Half double crochet in first stitch of round, 2 half double crochet in next stitch of round, repeat from * for remainder of round. (36 stitches total)
Round 4:
*Half double crochet in each of the first 2 stitches of round, 2 half double crochet in next stitch, repeat from * for remainder of round. (48 stitches total)
Round 5:
*Half double crochet in each of the first 3 stitches of round, 2 half double crochet in next stitch, repeat from * for remainder of round. (60 stitches total)
Round 6:
*Half double crochet in each of the first 4 stitches of round, 2 half double crochet in next stitch, repeat from * for remainder of round. (72 stitches total)
Rounds 7 – 14:
Half double crochet in each stitch of round for number of rounds indicated.
Round 15:
*Front post half double crochet (see Special Stitches Section for instructions) into first stitch of round, back post half double crochet (see Special Stitches Section for instructions) into second stitch of round, repeat from * for remainder of round. (72 stitches total)
Rounds 16 – 29:
Repeat round 15 for number for number of rounds indicated until last 2 stitches of Round 29, front post single crochet (see Special Stitches Section for instructions) in second to last stitch of Round 29, back post slip stitch (see Special Stitches Section for instructions) in last stitch of Round 29, slip stitch to join.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
