Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern With Soft Simple Textures

Pattern information below!

Size:

♥ 38 x 30 in (96.5 x 76 cm)

Materials:

♥ Approximately 980 yards worsted weight yarn (llama mix used in pictures, but any worsted weight can be used)

♥ Crochet hook: Size H/8 (5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

♥ Tapestry needle

Gauge:

♥ In half double crochet, 14 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches

Skill Level: Easy

♥ The yarn used for these items contains natural fiber and requires special laundering. Please read yarn labels and follow directions to maintain the life of your crochet work.

♥ Please take time to create a gauge sample before beginning work.

Special Stitches

Altered Bean Stitch / Puff Stitch:

Insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull through, *yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull through, repeat from * 3 more times, yarn over, pull through 10 loops on hook, chain 1 (to lock stitch). Skip 1 stitch immediately following bean stitch. This will equal two stitches in pattern.

Alternating Half Double Crochet:

Basic half double crochet stitch, alternating in back and front loop of stitch: *1 half double crochet in back loop only of the stitch followed by 1 half double crochet in front loop only of next stitch, repeat from * for desired length.

Half Double Crochet in Bottom Loop of Foundation Chain:

Turn your foundation chain over and crochet in the row of single “bumps” or loops created on the bottom when you made the chain.

Directions To Make Your Own Nursery Patch Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern

Chain 102, turn.

Row 1:

Half double crochet in bottom loop of foundation chain in third chain from hook and continue to end of row, turn. See Special Stitches Section of pattern for directions to work in foundation chain.

Rows 2 and 3:

Chain 2, half double crochet in each stitch, turn. Repeat pattern for number of rows indicated.

Row 4:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, altered bean stitch across row to last 4 stitches, half double crochet to end of row, turn (46 bean stitches total) See Special Stitches Section of pattern for Altered Bean Stitch directions.

Rows 5 – 15:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, *altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), repeat from * once, altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, altered bean stitch, half double crochet in last 4 stitches, turn. Repeat pattern for number of rows indicated.

Row 16:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, altered bean stitch across row to last 4 stitches, half double crochet to end of row, turn. (46 bean stitches total)

Rows 17 – 27:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, *altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, repeat from * once, altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), altered bean stitch, half double crochet in last 4 stitches, turn. Repeat pattern for number of rows indicated.

Row 28:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, altered bean stitch across row to last 4 stitches, half double crochet to end of row, turn. (46 bean stitches total)

Rows 29 – 39:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, *altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), repeat from * once, altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, altered bean stitch, half double crochet in last 4 stitches, turn. Repeat pattern for number of rows indicated.

Row 40:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, altered bean stitch across row to last 4 stitches, half double crochet to end of row, turn. (46 bean stitches total)

Rows 41 – 51:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, *altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, repeat from * once, altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), altered bean stitch, half double crochet in last 4 stitches, turn. Repeat pattern for number of rows indicated.

Row 52:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, altered bean stitch across row to last 4 stitches, half double crochet to end of row, turn. (46 bean stitches total)

Rows 53 – 63:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, *altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), repeat from * once, altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, altered bean stitch, half double crochet in last 4 stitches, turn. Repeat pattern for number of rows indicated.

Rows 65 – 75:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, *altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, repeat from * once, altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), altered bean stitch, half double crochet in last 4 stitches, turn. Row 76:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, altered bean stitch across row to last 4 stitches, half double crochet to end of row, turn. (46 bean stitches total)

Rows 77 – 87:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, *altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, altered bean stitch, alternating half double crochet for 16 stitches (beginning with back loop, ending with front loop), repeat from * once, altered bean stitch, half double crochet for 16 stitches, altered bean stitch, half double crochet in last 4 stitches, turn. Repeat pattern for number of rows indicated.

Row 88:

Chain 2, half double crochet in first 4 stitches, altered bean stitch across row to last 4 stitches, half double crochet to end of row, turn. (46 bean stitches total)

Rows 89 and 91:

Chain 2, half double crochet in each stitch, turn. Repeat pattern for number of rows indicated.

Fasten off.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends.

Lightly block to shape if necessary.

    I’m struggling with this pattern. I’ve followed it to a T and, on row 5, I keep having 4 altered bean stitches where I should only be left to do the final 4 HDC at the end of the row. What am I doing wrong?! I’ve ripped this whole thing out and started over 3 times now lol. HELP!
