Ruffled Hooded Cowl Crochet Pattern
Worked in the round, this pattern is easy to customize, so if you’re not keen on the ruffles, you can skip that part. Alternatively, if you just want a ruffled cowl with no hood, it’s easy to skip that element.
And, there are no special stitches involved, just the most basic, easy knots. So, even if you’re a beginner, this free crochet pattern will show you how to do it step by step. So grab your yarn and hook and get started!
What Yarn Should You Use for a Hooded Cowl?
For this particular project, I wanted a soft, smooth feeling yarn that wouldn’t be scratchy on the cheeks. But I also wanted something relatively lightweight that would make the finished piece warm without being heavy on the shoulders.
You can use any color of yarn you like, but a neutral or pastel shade looks best with the ruffled hooded cowl and makes it more versatile.
But this project can be worked with any super bulky weight yarn or similar.
What Size Does This Quick Crochet Hood Pattern Fit?
As written, this pattern is a one-size-fits-all size. I am an average height and it fits well. If I were making this pattern for a teen or even a tween, the pattern, as written, would be a slightly oversized fit, but would still be sufficient. For a larger individual, you may consider sizing up or working with a looser tension.
How Much Yarn Will I Need to Make a Crocheted Cowl?
I used a large portion of a 8.4 oz skein of 7% polyester and 93% acrylic, super bulky weight yarn (size 6) in pink colorway. I do generally crochet in a medium-tension, so this is what I would consider an average amount of yarn usage for this project.
How Do You Crochet a Hooded Cowl?
This particular hooded cowl crochet pattern is worked in the round. With the added ruffle, the stitch work doesn’t get too boring, so this is a great project for anyone who loves to see the design revealed in the round.
