Americans love their flag.  Old Glory flies proudly in the streets and outside houses, not just on the 4th of July, but all year round.

In classrooms, school kids pledge allegiance to the flag each morning, and at sports games, players sing to the star spangled banner while fans wave flags from the stalls. Heck, there is even an American flag fluttering on the moon!

It is loved for its highly recognizable and eye-catching design, and the way the red, white and blue colors can brighten up any street, wall, or outfit.

10 Patriotic American Flag Crochet Patterns

Crochet Blanket American Flag

Crochet blanket of American flag with crosses instead of stars spread across a brown leather chair.

First up is this beautiful American flag blanket, which is large enough to cover an armchair or  throw over the back of a sofa and will put a smile on any patriot’s face.

The pattern is all one piece so there is no sewing involved, and only requires two simple crochet stitches, the single stitch and the popcorn or bobble stitch.

For this reason, it is a great project for beginners and will provide you with plenty of time to master those stitches well.

The pattern is really well written and easy to follow, and the charts are in large print so you won’t be struggling to read them.

Better still, the pattern has yarn suggestions with color charts and amounts included, so you will get a great idea about what yarn to choose before you get started.

This is a classic Old Glory design and would make an amazing 4th of July gift.

American Flag Blanket Crochet Pattern

Crochet American flag with intricate stars laid on a dark wooden floor with a best seller sticker in the top corner.

This next American flag blanket is a best seller and is suitable for an advanced beginner, although anyone could give it a try.

It is big enough to cover a full size bed when finished, so it will keep you busy for a lovely long time and then keep you warm and snuggly for even longer.

The design stays as true to the real flag as possible, and the stars and stripes are really nicely proportioned for a very authentic finish. What’s more, the stars are part of the crochet pattern so they don’t need to be sewn on afterwards.

You will need to master a few different stitches for this one, but you will feel so proud (of yourself and your country) once it is complete.

American Flag Throw Crochet Pattern

An easy pattern that is definitely something a beginner could accomplish, this is a fun and fast work-up throw that says you’re proud.

Liberty Star Throw Crochet Pattern

Star shaped crochet rug with red white and blue stars getting smaller in size to the center of the rug on a wooden floor next to a white teddy bear.

If you have a friend in the military who has just had a baby then this next pick could make a beautiful handmade baby shower gift. Alternatively, the pattern offers a large size option if you fancy making a unique throw for your sitting room chair.

The pattern is aimed at advanced beginners who are familiar with the basic stitches and techniques.

It also involves some shaping to achieve that amazing starry finish, so is a little more involved than a basic rectangle or square pattern.

This really is a great pick if you are at the stage where you want to challenge your crocheting skills but still want to keep things gentle and fun.

The final design is really eye-catching and unique as well, so it is great if you want to put a bit of a twist on an old classic.

Vintage 1970s Patriotic Crochet Pattern

Blue crochet blanket with red and white zig zag pattern and white stars draped over a chair with 1970s written next to it.

Now for a bit of nostalgia in the form of this amazing Afghan crochet pattern. This blanket has a funky retro feel to it, and the stars and stripes take on a 1970s kind of vibe.

It really would look super kitsch in any sitting room or bedroom, and would make a great gift for teens or golden oldies alike.

The pattern is aimed at advanced beginners and is very easy to follow. It has been digitally restored from an actual vintage original, so you really will be following an authentic 70s design.

It uses sports yarn and two differing hook sizes, so you do need to have some experience to take it on, but the finished article is a real show-stopper.

Top tip – pick those slightly muted yarn colors rather than the classic reds and blues if you want to achieve that vintage, rock n’ roll feel.

4th of July American Coaster Crochet Pattern

Small crochet coasters with red, white, and blue rectangles and a small trim on all sides on a pale wooden background.

If you are looking for a quick crochet project that isn’t going to take you months to complete, then these American flag coasters are a good place to start.

Not only are they incredibly cute but the pattern is also very well written and easy to follow, with 5 pages of fool-proof instructions so you will be guided through every step of the process.

They come together quickly once you get the hang of it, so they are a brilliant gift if you want to make something small for stocking fillers, or make enough to give one to everybody on your sports team.

What’s more, they are great crocheting practice, since they are surprisingly intricate and require 5 different stitches.

The pattern is rated intermediate skill level and requires a tapestry needle as well as a 5mm crochet hook.

These coasters make a really pretty little gift, and they also come in very handy since they will protect your surfaces from coffee and wine stains. What more could you ask for?!

If you are looking to create a crochet piece that you can show-off to the world, then this bobble hat is the perfect pattern for you.

It makes such an eye-catching addition to any winter outfit once finished, and is great for sporting events and patriotic parades.

The pattern is one-size-fits-all, however there is the option of using a bigger/smaller needle, or adding/ deleting rows, if you want to make the finished article fit specific head measurements.

This little beauty will keep you busy, challenge and develop your crochet technique and then keep you lovely and warm when you wear it! Win win!

American Flag Eagle Crochet Pattern

Crochet Eagle with brown body and wings with the pattern of the American flag on against a wooden background.

And last but not least, we couldn’t resist adding this adorable American eagle with red, white and blue wings to the list.

He is not only the gosh-darn cutest thing ever, but this pattern is also a real gem, with easy to follow instructions and plenty of photographs for reference along the way.

It is aimed at an intermediate skill level and requires a good knowledge of basic crocheting techniques, and the final article is pretty impressive to say the least.

Anyone would be thrilled to receive such a humorous and heart-felt gift, and the fact that it is handmade will make it even more personal and meaningful.
